USA Wrestling has announced that this year’s World Team Trials will be held the weekend of May 31-June 1 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. At stake are 42 Team USA roster spots, consisting of 21 places each in Men’s Freestyle and Women’s Freestyle. Athletes selected for Team USA will earn the right to represent America in the 2014 World Wrestling Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in September, as well as a number of other prestigious international competitions throughout the 2014-15 season.

Many former and current World and Olympic medalists are expected to participate in the freestyle trials, including reigning 74 kg World Champ Jordan Burroughs; 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jake Varner; and 2013 World bronze medalists Adeline Gray and Alyssa Lampe.

In addition, a number of up-and-coming NCAA stars have qualified for the trials and will descend on Madison with the hopes of impressing Team USA coaches Zeke Jones, Brandon Slay, and Bill Zadick. Local fans will especially appreciate seeing Badger standouts Tyler Graff (2013All-American selection) and Andrew Howe (three-time Big 10 champion) return to action in a bid to make the national team.

World Team trials for the Greco-Roman squad will not be held concurrently with the Freestyle trials. Instead, that event has been scheduled for June 13-14 in Daytona Beach, Fla., where it will coincide with the FILA Cadet National Duals.
